It’s gotten hard to reach across the divide between reality and Republicanism.

Choosing friends or maintaining relationships with anyone based on who they vote for isn’t great practice. In my life, I’ve tried not to do that. It’s felt pointless—especially when I know that the person they vote for doesn’t typically matter all that much.

Except when my co-workers, acquaintances, neighbors and family support the GOP today which is led by Donald Trump—who is the most intentionally destructive thing I’ve observed.

To say that you’re a backer of the GOP in 2021 means that you support Donald Trump and don’t live in the same reality as I do. And that’s created a lot of problems in daily life.

It’s not a disagreement on policy, because today’s Republicans don’t have any policies or ideas except suppress the vote, promote fear, ignore the truth, embrace conspiracies and own the libs. Right on! The other thing the party appears to stand for is Trump. The big problem here is the difference in how I see the world, what I know to be real, and how Trump-voting Republicans see the world and what they perceive to be real. A while back I read that more than half of Republicans still believed the election was stolen after the false claims all died in court or were actually disproven. 147 Republicans (elected officials, sworn to uphold the Constitution) voted to overturn the election.
