Good Buns and Bad Ideas: The 2022 BWCA Trip Recap

I write a recap of a Boundary Waters trip I go on every year. This one is from last year.

Attendees: Jake Larson, Jake Torgerson, Nathan Goltz, Paul Vincent, Andrew Lehner, Luke Abrahamson, his cousin Lars Johnson and me, Eric Forseth.

Dates: May 25th-29th the year of our Lord, 2022.

Our group is called The Beaver Bay Fight Club.

While gathering for dinner at the Gunflint Tavern in Grand Marais on Wednesday we were (pretty much) propositioned by some Canadians to attend a bachelorette party.

When asked by a blonde girl and a guy with glitter on his face if I would join, I politely declined and told them I was going to the Boundary Waters. The guy looked confused; the girl looked like she had eaten a lemon. He said, “What’s that?” She said, “Lame.” I continued walking into the establishment to consume what would be one of six cheeseburgers in a five-day span.

I like big burgers and I cannot lie.

Now, fast forward three beers and one burger and we were back outside ready to hop into vehicles and truck down the Gunflint Trail to our bunkhouse for the night, Voyageurs Canoe Outfitters. The same…
